Steven Briggs 2 years agoI had initially avoided this restaurant on my 6 day stay due to the other reviews but decided to have breakfast on my last day. It was a wonderful meal of tamales, eggs and potatoes that is on par with what is served at other area restaurants. I would say it was what I was hoping for from another restaurant I reviewed yesterday but left disappointed in. It was a generous portion of roasted potatoes, two large green chile and cheese tamales, with two eggs and dollops of sour cream, guacamole and pico. I added some corn tortillas that I probably could have gone without but they were also good and supposedly homemade (although I’m skeptical due to their uniformity). A few other items on the menu caught my eye so I might try them next time I’m I town (I get back to Tucson a few times a year).
Amanda Mooney 2 years agoCelebrated our 1 year anniversary here at El Mezquite and we’re very happy. Loved the attentive and friendly staff. We were really happy with the food we got- I got the chimichanga and my husband got a burger and they were both really good. We would describe the food at “New Mexican food” it is just Mexican food with a slightly modern twist and we really enjoyed it. El Mezquite gave us complimentary dessert for our anniversary. Very happy will return.
Tanya B 3 years agoGreat place to come before a show. The patio is beautiful and the drinks, food and service were all great. We split the cheese crisp and got some burgers. Both were excellent. The only thing that was a little weird, was that we were told the drinks were taking a little long because the bartender had to run over to the liquor store because they ran out of tequila. I'm not sure how a bar runs out of tequila, or if they just ran out of one particular type of tequila and didn't think to use or offer a different one? Either way, had never heard that one before. But the food was definitely good, and so was the margarita once it came. Yes, it was a bit pricey, but the flavor was there.
Alex Vidal a year agoWe kept driving past this hotel and finally decided to give their restaurant a try. The corn soup? Pretty darn good! The French fries? Absolutely on point! But the steak? Not so much—way too much fat for the portion size, and I just didn’t enjoy it. Service was okay, but not the best. If I only had three or four tables, I’d be on it. I get that they have other tasks, but if you're going to have a restaurant in the building, have a dedicated waiter. I even had to ask for the check myself just to get it. For two people, the bill came to $90, which felt steep for a hotel restaurant that, honestly, had the ambiance of a hospital cafeteria. There, I said it. Will we be back? Nope. But I’ll definitely remember the French fries and that corn soup. I won’t give them a one-star review because, to me, a real one-star experience would involve being punched in the face and held at gunpoint—and they did nothing like that. I don’t like people who throw out one-star reviews for minor issues. So, for that reason, they get three stars. The fries and corn soup saved them from a two-star rating!
Robin Badart 4 months agotried them for sunday brunch. the buffet would have been the better choice, but we opted to order off the menu. the chilaquiles were not good. waitress recommended green instead of traditional red chili (mistake) which a) was way too much of it, and b) very tart/tangy. also not enough cheese; could barely find any. the other entree was green chili tamales. the tamales also were not great. oh well - this is a convenient place for a meal before attending an event at tcc or the music hall, but the food wasn't great. service was good, but my water tasted like it was filtered through a dirty dish rag. how the heck does that happen??
