I went in for brunch on a Saturday. Whilst enjoying my meal, a Hispanic family of 6ppl walked in, stood around for about 2 mins; was not approached by any staff. The hostess was not at the stand. When they did return she IGNORED THEM. It was so blatant. She then pulled out her phone and was scrolling God knows what. The family walked out. I was fuming inside. This is gentrification to the nth degree. You’re serving Mexican food at a high level that is transmitted in a way that screams it only matters to get the accolades of those have held the privelege to give out them out, ahem, Bib Gourmand. It really colored my experience for the worse. My waiter was very sweet and pleasant. Get the choripapas, que rico! The ceviche was tasty, but the cut of salmon was very cheap and looked to have been frozen/defrosted 2x as the flesh was not plump, nor firm. Not worth $26. As a brown person, I’m really embarrassed for the subvert culture of exclusion that El Chingon allows. After the family left, I looked around and only myself and the staff had all the melanin, iykwim.

El Chingon just earned the Bib Gourmand awarded by Michelin. The Bib Gourmand is a prestigious award given by the MICHELIN Guide to restaurants that offer "exceptional food at great value". It is a distinction that recognizes high-quality cooking at moderate, affordable prices, though the specific price threshold varies by country based on local cost of living. Their food and service was excellent, the Aquachile Mixto was so tasty. The Rabbit Tinga Tostadas was so tender that it melts in your mouth. The tacos Quesabirrias was exceptional. The tres leches for me, my son loved it, I did not enjoy as much because they substituted the cream with rice. Definitely recommend to go try but recommend to make reservations.

Amazing restaurant! The birria tacos were incredibly flavorful and perfectly seasoned, and the salsa they bring to the table is outstanding, easily the best birria tacos I’ve ever had. The service was wonderful and very attentive, and the atmosphere is nice and chic without being loud, so you can actually enjoy conversation with your guest. Seating can be a bit tight in some areas, but it’s ideal for parties of 2–4, or you can sit at the long bar for more space. Also, it’s BYOB, so if you want a great drink with your meal, be sure to bring it with you.

Food exceeded our (already high) expectations. Service was great. Brought our own tequila and they made some of the best margs we’ve ever had!

Date night with my husband here in February exceeded expectations! Our server was incredibly attentive and warm, food came out quickly, was hot and delicious. I was pregnant for this date and ordered the sparkling limeade drink and it completely satiated my margarita craving while being nonalcoholic. It’s not a large space so expect some lively conversation around you and not a ton of elbow room but still comfortable. I’d make a reservation if you can! Can’t wait to go back!
