Magda 3 months agoWe had a wonderful dinner experience here with a party of six. The space is beautifully designed, with thoughtfully separated areas that make it feel more private and comfortable for groups. We started with guacamole, which had a beautiful presentation and was perfect for sharing, along with the octopus and tuna tartare—everything was fresh and delicious. For the mains, we had the paella, branzino, carne asada tacos, and tried the sweet plantain and chorizo tacos for the first time, which were a great surprise. Sharing the dishes made the experience even more enjoyable. The drinks were also excellent, and the staff was kind enough to replace one that was a bit too strong. The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, and the service was good throughout. Overall, a great spot for a group dinner with delicious food and a welcoming vibe!
Steve V 2 months agoMatilda on Wells Street is a standout for those wanting a lunch with refined flavor and a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere. Jonny, Aide, and Alicia were all friendly and very helpful. Matilda has an impressive drinks menu, especially the wide variety of mezcal spirits available. We ordered from the three course lunch menu, and were not disappointed! Everything was fresh, inventive and delicious. On our next visit, we plan to check out the downstairs speakeasy.
Yanet 2 weeks agoI highly recommend this place, the service was friendly and attentive. Decent drinks and most of the food was excellent. Pricing fair for the dining place and location. During our visit with a family of 8 adults and a baby- we had a great time, our server let us know they have a special “steak frites” and 4 of us decided on it. We asked for medium and all of them came back well done with some of the meat charred, and it was REALLY DRY. We did mention it to the server who sent the manager- the manager was friendly and offered to have our plates redone but only one was willing to wait for their new plate to be redone. It came back done right for them but the steak wasn’t particularly a good cut or with much flavor. I would 100% recommend they remove that special from the menu- it’s was basic and not at all at the level of the rest of the dishes everyone else had. The other plates- the birria, tinga de pollo, lomo saltado, even the appetizers we ordered, calamari, guacamole tatemado, tomato salad were excellent. But the special was the most boring, tasteless and poorly prepared and it was $42 per plate. Sincerely, we didn’t further complain because we were out celebrating but they should be embarrassed about that plate. There’s nothing special or good about it and because it wasn’t prepared correctly and wasn’t even warm when we got it, it just left us with such an unsatisfying visit for us 4. Again, skip the “special” full stop. Terrible option to even have but the rest of the menu was excellent. Be prepared too, because although the gratuity is charged at 20% like most - if not all restaurants they ALSO charge a 3.95% restaurant surcharge. I’ll leave our bill for reference.
Hanna Felton 4 months agoThis was the best dinner experience that I’ve had in Chicago in a long time. The flavors were so inquire, presentation of food was top tier, and service was impeccable. Get the plantain tacos and the pallela! David took great care of us, he had the best recommendations and was extremely knowledgable on my allergy — he immediately knew what I could eat and what dishes could be adjusted to be gluten free. This is a great place to go on a date, with friends, or family! I will 100% be back!
Kedz 3 months agoFood is amazing is an understatement. They have an upscale take on Latin flare. I wont lie, the way they cook and present food seems very intentional. I truly enjoyed the guacamole and chips. Tacos were delicious. We also had tomato ceviche and it was all prepared well. I definitely recommend if youre looking for an experience. The cocktails were also really tasty and the ambience of the place was just beautiful. I definitely will be back.
