Jodi Bonham 5 months agoDue to the 5.0 rating I saw, I decided to give this new place a try as it just opened up around the corner from my house roughly 1 month ago. Boy am I glad I did, because it is a hidden gem in Mesa! Quality of food was very good, flavors were delicious, & service was attentive. I was torn between ordering their birria tacos & their small combo plate (offering a crispy taco, cheese enchilada & Chile relleno). Birria seemed to appeal more today & I also figured a tasty consume is a sure tell-tale sign of good cooking. The consume was delicious: rich & flavorful without being overly greasy, so feeling sort of 'light'. Beans were creamy & like homemade. Rice was on point. The freshly fried tortilla chips were a nice touch, and the red & green salsas were fantastic. (Note: 1st round of chips are on the house, but refills are an extra charge. I was served plenty without needing to order a refill). While both salsas were very tasty, my preference was the green as it had the perfect balance of spicy, citrusy, & oniony notes. Fresh made sopapillas are an off menu dessert offering too, which were a delightful treat. To be honest, the sopapilla size was perfect, but the being a denser style, it wasn't the best one I've ever eaten in my life. Admittedly though, it's been an incredibly long time since I've even been able to find a local place that makes one fresh, or even remotely close to that true pillowy goodness, and so for that, I still enjoyed it. Don't let the non-descript strip center exterior deter you either. Inside was clean & comfortable. I will be back & am already recommending it to others!
Gerald Ussery 6 months agoWent on Opening Night, experience was absolutely fantastic! I'm originally from New Mexico, and I'm all about flavor and authenticity. They didn't disappoint. Had The Mushroom Queso Fundido as an appetizer, and it was truly unique and tasted great. My Dinner entre was a small combination plate, everything was really nice, especially the Chile Relleno! Owners, Kathy, Dave, Bonnie and Vince are super nice, and Bartender/Server Samantha was Awesome! Margaritas were also great, my suggestion on those is to definitely and consistently add triple sec/orange to tone down the tartness of the sweet and sour. Bottom Line: I can't wait to go back...
Carlos Lopez 4 months agoSo another New Mexican restaurant just opened up on the Eastside.... So I can start off by saying that atmosphere and service was good. Unfortunately the food wasn't that great. My wife being from New Mexico herself was ok with it, but my son's and I weren't too impressed with it. The enchiladas tasted weird not authentic, my son ordered the chimichanga plate, and it was missing the rice and beans, unfortunately we didn't notice until we got home after looking at the menu and pics. The sopapillas were shaped all wierd, also nothing like back home. They also didn't have much of a choice on the menu. I was waiting to see Stuffed Sopapillas, Carne Adobada, Calabacitas, but nothing. Maybe next time we go they'll be more choices.
Jessica Vickstrom 4 months agoFood tasted good. Portions a little small. We did go just after 1 pm Chips homemade salsa was Food.
Jodi Yearling 5 months agoI thought I was going to have to fly to Santa Fe to get some delicious New Mexican food, but now I just have to drive down the road. I started with a spicy skinny margarita which was made from scratch and delicious and free chips and salsa. I had chicken enchiladas with beans and rice. The red sauce had a nice kick and the green sauce was so tasty! I ended the meal with a yummy sopapilla. I went home full and happy! I will be back!
