Omerta Table 2 months ago🌮 Review: Maderas Kitchen & Cantina (Houston, TX) 🍹 If you’re hunting for authentic Mexican food in Houston, you have to check out Maderas Kitchen & Cantina on Westheimer. This place isn’t your average Tex-Mex spot; it’s a deep dive into real, interior Mexican flavors with a modern, elegant twist. The Star of the Show: Flautas Ahogadas 🥣 I ordered the Flautas Ahogadas, and they were absolutely incredible. If you want a taste of Mexico City, this is it. The flautas are perfectly crispy, submerged in a rich, flavorful sauce that hits all the right notes. It’s hard to find a place that gets the "ahogada" style just right, but Maderas nails the authenticity and the spice balance perfectly. The Star: The Mixed Molcajete 🥘 This isn't just a meal; it's a performance. Served in a traditional, scorching hot volcanic stone bowl, the Molcajete is packed with premium meats, succulent shrimp, and grilled cactus, all bubbling in a rich, deeply flavored salsa. The sizzle and the aroma as it hits the table are incredible. Every bite stays hot until the very end, and the flavors are as authentic as it gets. If you’re hungry and want to impress your table, this is the dish to order! The Drink: Carajillo with a Twist ☕️🔥 To wash it all down, I had their signature Carajillo. It’s the perfect blend of espresso and Licor 43, but Maderas takes it to the next level. It comes topped with a perfectly toasted marshmallow and a dash of graham cracker crumble. It’s smoky, sweet, and the ultimate "dessert cocktail." It’s easily one of the most unique and "Instagrammable" drinks in the city right now.
Q Man a month agoI wanted to like this place and had high expectations but ended up disappointed. 1. Shrimp Ceviche had been left marinating too long. It was tough and nothing special than your typical run of the mill ceviche. 2. Quesadillas de flor de calabaza: to me a quesadilla is pressed under heat and pressure with melted cheese so that when it cools down the tortilla is held in place in a half moon shape. This was not a quesadilla. This was basically a taco with all loose things inside. Again, nothing special about the taste. 3. When I asked about the Mole to the waiter he said it was the best he’d ever had. So I ordered it and quickly realized that it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. The Mole was good but I’ve had better. The Chicken legs were overcooked, tough and stringy. Very disappointed. 4. Elote was covered in sauce and grated cheese. It was decent. 5. Refried rice was the best I’ve ever had. 6. Carajillo was good although the toasted marshmallow wasn’t needed. I was hoping to find something different but ended finding the same same.
JP 3 months agoBeautiful place, great service and amazing food! The specialty cocktails are amazing especially at happy hour. Was shocked at the amount of food and the total price was reasonable for what you get. Staff was very informative. Very happy we happened upon this place. The floral mural was also beautiful. The music was great (nice bass lol) We shared the flautas (plenty to share).
Fati Mtz 7 months agoWe stopped by for a late brunch on Sunday and luckily only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We had the pozole rojo, which was a bit spicy but delicious, and the flautas ahogadas that did not disappoint. The drinks were also very good! We had our freshly made churros to go. Our server Justin was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has beautiful, lively decor and is very clean. The music selection keeps the vibe going!
Humberto Camarena 3 months agoMaderas is easily one of my favorite spots for Mexican food. The food is always solid, full of flavor, and consistent every time I go. The presentation is on point for both the food and drinks, which makes the whole experience even better. The atmosphere is definitely chill with good background music, just a great place to hang out and enjoy a meal. Always a good time here.
